Read Romans 4:1-8.
When it comes to matters relating to salvation, God is the actor and we are the recipient. Jesus Christ saves us from our sins, redeems our lives from the mess we created, and brings us back into His loving embrace. All of this is not a work of man but a work of God. If salvation were the work of man, we would have something to boast about. But before God we have nothing about which to boast, only thanksgiving, worship and praise to what He has done for us.

  1. I love it that Abraham serves as the greatest example of faith. He was such a flawed character, filled with insecurities, a chronic liar, impatient, and easily led astray. But he was righteous because God did something in his life. And that's the key. And that's what I need most to remember.

  2. Sometimes it's easy to get discouraged about what we've not done, or not done as well as we could, or should. How much of a relief is it that at the end of the day, all that God asks of is to believe. Just keep believing. And then that will give us the strength to keep trying...but even when we keep failing...the belief is enough.
